Call for talented local band to be supporting act
Westcountry legends The Wurzels will perform at a private event at the Devon County Show again this year, following their highly successful appearance last year.
The band will perform at the County Show during an exclusive invitation-only event organised by Stephens Scown on the evening of 19 May.
The four-piece group will be playing its famous hits including Combine Harvester and I am a Cider Drinker for livestock exhibitors and invited guests. The Wurzels were formed in 1966 and are still going strong, gaining new fans and playing gigs and festivals across the country.
Susie Murray, head of the rural team in Devon at Stephens Scown, said: “We are delighted that The Wurzels will be entertaining us again at the Show this year. The Devon County Show is a premier event in the region, so what better than to have such an iconic band playing! After the serious work of the day, it will be a great way for our guests to unwind.”
Ollie Allen, the Secretary of the Devon County Show, added: “The Show is a great place for companies to entertain their guests in a relaxing setting. And I’m sure our livestock exhibitors will enjoy letting their hair down on the dance floor at Stephen Scown’s private party.”
We’re also looking for a talented local band to be the support act, and has launched a competition for entries. The firm is calling for entries from schools, colleges and community bands who would like to entertain the Devon agricultural community in a 20-30 minute slot.
To enter, they simply need to send a video clip or YouTube link together with some information about themselves to marketing@stephens-scown.co.uk by Thursday 14 April, and the winner will be announced on Thursday 28 April.
Susie Murray said: “Performing at the Show as a support act for The Wurzels will be a great opportunity for a band to get itself noticed. We’re open to any style of music and would love to listen to some clips so that we can choose a winner!”
A second support act will be our own 20-strong staff choir – aptly called the Rolling Scowns!
This year’s Devon County Show runs from 19-21 May and will feature a wide array of livestock competitions as well as the Shetland Grand National, show jumping, motocross stunts, trade stands and the best food and drink that the region has to offer.
