May is always a busy month at Stephens Scown and for graduate trainees it is no different.
Our Training Partners and Year 1 Trainees from across all three offices met in Exeter to talk about how they are finding their first seats and what they are getting involved with in their offices.
It was a great chance to get together for an informal night of pizza, pie and local beverages. Having the opportunity to talk openly about the first few months along with the Training Partners is a great way to feed back on what they are enjoying and if there is anything we can do to improve the experience.
This year we have trainees who have attended lots of interesting courses including presentation skills, negotiation and advocacy, all helping develop skills they can take forward into their career. This month Laura Britton travelled to Warsaw and took part in the FBE International Contract Competition, joining teams from Poland, Belgium, Bulgaria, Romania, Spain and the UK. Laura and her partner finished in 3rd place.
Our trainees are very much part of the team and have been involved in an impressive amount of activities this month including:
- manning our stand at the Devon County Show
- helping at our UK law firm of the year client event
- singing with the choir at the Exeter Food and Drink Festival
- organising TAG rugby for referrers
- representing the firm at professional networking events
- entering the Exeter Business Games
- joining a band to participate in Law Rocks London and
- internal fundraising for our office charities.
Can’t wait to see what June brings!
