We are delighted to announce that our Family Law team has been recognised for going above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing of colleagues and clients in the LexisNexis Family Law Awards.
Family Law Team | national award
The Family Law Wellbeing Award celebrates law firms demonstrating a strong commitment to providing or promoting a working environment that supports the mental and physical health of its staff, members or colleagues, and enables them to maintain a healthy balance between their work pressures and home life. Among a competitive field, Stephens Scown are proud to be nominated for this prestigious award.
Independently ranked as the best solicitors for divorce, Children’s Law, and Family Law in the region, our Family Law solicitors work with clients across the South West and beyond.
Andy Barton, head of our Family Law team, says: “Given the nature of many of the cases faced by the team, it’s important to provide experienced supervision and additional peer support by having an open culture of sharing ideas and co-working to ensure the team members dealing with emotional cases have the support that they need. It testament to the strength of support both within the team and wider firm that we have received this shortlisting.”
Recognition
The submission highlighted that, like all employees, the team also has access to free one-to-one counseling sessions with external counselors, three paid volunteer days per year to support local communities and causes, and a mentoring program, among many other mental and physical well-being offers.
It’s not just about employee support though, as the team provides expert help for individuals and families throughout the South West, and across the UK. Taking into account the unique requirements of each family, initial conversations ensure that details of the matter are passed to the person within the team best suited to help.
The Family team also produces an innovative Insync e-magazine, which was first launched to keep in touch with clients and to provide holistic support to them as they go through a divorce or separation, or to help them as they rebuild their lives afterward.
Sarah Walls, a partner in the firm’s Family Finance team, adds: “We understand that many of our clients come to us at some of the most difficult and emotional times in their lives. For this reason, we like to take a much more holistic approach than just offering legal advice, giving clients access to counselors as part of the service we provide, and which we believe marks us out as unique among law firms.”
The team’s close links with professional counsellors, who are able to provide emotional support to complement top quality legal advice, means that many clients find it invaluable, allowing them to focus on the decisions that need to be made through the legal process.
In 2016 Stephens Scown became the first large law firm in the UK to become employee owned, with the profit-share attributed to the Employee Ownership Trust distributed equally between staff regardless of their role.
We believe being employee owned is not only great for our employees, but that our clients benefit too, with happy and engaged employees delivering better client service.
