Capping off an incredible two weeks and having received three nominations in both the LexisNexis and Access Legal Modern Law Awards, Stephens Scown made it a hattrick of hattricks, scoring three nominations in the Exeter Living Awards 2024.
The shortlisting crowns a remarkable two weeks of success for the Firm. Having achieved nominations in national awards, picking up three nominations in the Exeter Living Awards demonstrates the company’s commitment to the local areas in which it operates, as well as highlighting the quality of work done in the region. The nominations are in the categories of Legal Services, Employer and Sustainability.
Judges saw in the submission the strength and range of Stephens Scown’s work, how its strength lies in both how it takes care of its legal work and support of clients, its employees, and its approach to sustainability – and how that approach is being shared with other organisations who benefit from the Firm’s experience.
Speaking about the organisation’s recognition across another set of awards, Managing Partner Richard Baker said, “Having jointly won the award for Legal Services last year, being shortlisted in the Exeter Living Awards is a real honour. It is great to have the work of colleagues in our Exeter office being acknowledged across the city and the wider South West, as we show once again our position as a regional heavyweight.
“The categories in which we have received a nomination shine a light on the first-class legal services we deliver to clients, our commitment to ensuring Stephens Scown is a great place to work, and our support for our local community and on a wider environmental scale.”
Each category demonstrates one of the firm’s particular strengths, and when combined, mark Stephens Scown out as a major player in the legal sector. Being shortlisted in the legal category shows the quality of work undertaken by the firm’s teams. Standing out in a competitive sector is a sign of the recognition achieved externally, the judges impressed by the client care and service delivery in handling often complex, emotionally difficult cases, and doing so in a way that is seen as a real gold standard by those outside of the organisation.
Picking up a nomination for Employer emphasises the importance placed on supporting employees across the business. It also shines a light on the value of being both employee-owned and B Corp™ Certified, with each employee invested in providing a first-class service for the benefit of clients, and with those eligible receiving an equal profit share based on the firm’s performance.
Finally, a listing in the sustainability category follows close on the heels on the one-year anniversary of Stephens Scown’s B Corp™ Certification. Having committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2025, a target that places it ahead of many other similar sized organisations, judges saw the impact that the firm is having on the planet. With the most recent carbon report showing a 78% reduction, and operating a zero to waste landfill policy, the award is a sign of the positive environmental focus and dedication to being about more than people and profit.
Taking place in the University of Exeter’s Great Hall on the 7 March, the awards ceremony is set to be a gala night honouring the best businesses from across the city, bringing together companies from a variety of sectors to share in the celebrations.
