Head of the Property Litigation team at Stephens Scown LLP, Richard Bagwell, has been named as joint editor of Aldridge Leasehold Law, a definitive three-volume looseleaf work on leasehold law published by Sweet & Maxwell, which he has been editing for the last 12 months with Judge Robert Brown, a judge of the First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber). In addition, Tom Graham from the firm’s Rural Property team is a named co-author and has provided his specialist expertise on conveyancing.
First published in 1980, and available to all legal advisors in Practical Law Company/Westlaw Books, Aldridge Leasehold Law has the prime objective of providing maximum practical information in relation to all types of commercial, residential and agricultural law in a format that requires minimum research time.
Having just completed the fourth update, Richard Bagwell comments: “I was first asked to contribute to this definitive guide to leasehold law to focus on the commercial and agricultural landlord and tenant chapters. Landlord and tenant legislation and case law is continuing to evolve across all sectors, and it is a very interesting process to research and explain the latest developments in an accessible format.”
One of the key benefits of Aldridge Leasehold Law is providing users with all the relevant latest information in one place, including coverage of institutional leases, relevant source material and a selection of precedents for preparing tenancy agreements. The Looseleaf format keeps the practitioner up to date, taking into account new developments in case and statute law. Richard adds: “Recent updates include, amongst other sections on the Electronic Communications Code, discrimination in the management of buildings, agricultural tenancies and charity land. We have new chapters planned on a variety of topics, which means that the work will be constantly evolving and improving.”
Described by the Law Society Gazette as: “Indispensable” and “… a most useful and reliable desk book on leasehold law.” It also adds that, “It is a real boon to have this material both readily available and presented in its current amended form.”
Richard Bagwell acts on a range of contentious property issues including commercial, residential and agricultural landlord and tenant, freehold, land registration, telecommunications, utilities, wayleaves development matters and property related professional negligence. He is ranked by Chambers and Partners as a leading individual for Real Estate Litigation in the South West and is described as “a seasoned and distinguished litigator”.
Tom Graham is a solicitor in Stephens Scown’s specialist Rural Property team, with a particular emphasis on work involving land and property in the countryside, including acting for landowners entering into options and promotion agreements with developers and Electronic Communications Code work (such as leases for mobile phone masts).
