Charities operate in a complex environment of regulation and ever increasing public scrutiny, as well as changing economic and social policy. To help charity trustees demonstrate that they are employing good governance and responding appropriately to changes, the Charity Commission has published a guide for trustee boards called ‘Big Board Talk’.
The guide contains a checklist of 15 questions designed to help trustees structure discussions and review the effectiveness of their charity. Not all of the questions will be relevant to every charity, but they do encourage trustees to focus on key areas such as strategy, financial health, governance and making best use of resources.
