Good Divorce Week takes place from 30th November to 4th December 2020 this year; the initiative is run by Resolution who are a community of family justice professionals, including solicitors, working with families and individuals to resolve family separation issues in a constructive way.
Many of the Family Team at Stephens Scown are members of Resolution and have signed up to a Code of Practice which aims to sort out finances and child care in a way which minimises conflict and considers the needs of the whole family.
Highlighting the Code of Practice during Good Divorce Week
As part of the Code of Practice, Resolution members will ensure that they listen to you, that they are honest with you and that they treat you with respect.
It is important that you receive realistic advice and Resolution members are committed to ensuring that you are clear about the likely outcomes from the start of the process, to the extent that it is possible to advise you at an early stage.
This will ensure that you are aware of all of the options available to you and provide you with the confidence to make the right decisions for you.
Focus on what is important in the long term
One of the most important pieces of advice that we give clients is to look to the future, rather than to dwell on what has happened up to the point of separation. Resolution’s members are committed to helping you to focus on what’s important in the long term and we find that this advice is essential to keep in mind when making decisions and balancing the financial and emotional costs with what you want and need to achieve from the process.
The best solution for you
Ultimately, all of our solicitors will work with you and with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you, and they will do their best to make what can be a stressful situation as smooth as possible. It is always important to minimise conflict where possible and even more so where you will need to co-parent for the foreseeable future.
Stephens Scown are committed to assisting in that process and to providing you with the tools you need to thrive post-separation.
Additional support
We recognise our role as solicitors is limited to assisting you with the practical aspects of divorce and separation and, although we can play our part in making your divorce as positive as possible, we also recognise the roles of other professionals in that process.
We have an in-house counsellor who we direct clients to where it would be beneficial, so that clients can consider their options including, if appropriate, reconciliation. Our quarterly newsletter, In Sync, is also available to all our clients and provides relevant wellbeing advice and information to those who are going through a separation.
Very few people envisage getting divorced when they get married, and we understand some of the emotions that you might be experiencing as you go through the process. Our job is to make your divorce as smooth as possible and Good Divorce Week is an important opportunity for all Family Law professionals to commit to providing a professional and positive service to their clients.
