George is a solicitor in Corporate team, joining Stephens Scown in 2023.
He undertakes a broad range of corporate work for owner managed businesses as well as SMEs with particular focus on:
- Employee Ownership (EO), particularly tax advantaged EO trusts;
- Share sales and purchases;
- Group restructuring;
- Shareholder’s agreements and company governance;
- Business succession;
George was born in Bulgaria (therefore fluent in Bulgarian) and grew up on a dairy farm with a large focus on sustainability. His background and passion for food sees George work as part of the firm’s growing food and drink specialist team. Supporting healthcare businesses, he is also part of the specialist healthcare team, working for clients in this vital and often overlooked sector.
He is one of Stephens Scown’s B Corp™ champions, passionate about helping businesses on their own journey to become B Corp™ Certified.
Recent examples of work includes:
- Completing a 100% employee ownership transition in the healthcare sector;
- Completing a multijurisdictional 100% employee ownership transition in the software sector;
- Completing a 100% employee ownership transition in the transport sector;
- Advising a number of businesses in respect of their governance documents and their B Corp applications;
- The sale of a finance and tax business to a foreign buyer;
- Leading a complex restructure of a business in the transport sector.
Prior to working as a solicitor, George was general manager for a healthcare firm which was the sole EU distributor for the largest acupuncture brand in the world. He had a large input in negotiating international supply and distributorship agreements, exclusivity agreements, and brand development plans, as well as managing the company’s intellectual property portfolio.
He has a BA degree in English Linguistics from Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv which allows him to teach English as a foreign language. After moving to the UK, George completed the LLB Law at the University of Exeter and the LPC with Business at BPP Bristol; qualifying as a solicitor in April 2021.
Outside of work George is passionate about food, cooking and travelling. He also enjoys running, growing produce at his allotment and the occasional visit to a good traditional British pub.
