Megan joined Stephens Scown’s Inheritance and Trust Dispute team in January 2023.

Qualifying as a solicitor in 2022, she has experience advising claimants, defendants, personal representatives, attorneys and deputies in the County Court, High Court and Court of Protection.

Megan’s work covers a variety of areas, her specialisms including:

Inheritance and will-related matters

  • Estate challenges under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
  • Will validity disputes.
  • Claims relating to executors/personal representatives/trustees and removal applications.
  • Challenging lifetime gifts and investigating applications to set aside transactions.

Unmarried couples and other property co-owners

  • Drafting Cohabitation Agreements and Declarations of Trusts.
  • Advising upon the impact of Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 including applications for orders for sale and dealing with equitable accounting exercises.
  • Claims concerning proprietary estoppel and common intention constructive trusts.
  • Intervening in financial remedy proceedings where third parties are claiming a beneficial interest in the matrimonial home.

Financial Abuse / Court of Protection

  • Investigating fraud and financial abuse.
  • Assisting lay and professional clients with Court of Protection applications and the Office of Public Guardian involvement concerning Deputyship applications and administration, applications for permission to carry out specified exercises and decisions on specific issues.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her family, CrossFit, walking the dogs and being outside as much as possible to enjoy the intermittent Cornish sunshine.
