Farmers and farming businesses will gather to hear the latest offering from a trio of local firms at a business essentials seminar on 21 October 2015. The event titled “Your Farm, Your Family, Your Future” will focus on succession, planning opportunities and the protection of the family farm.

Taking place at The Pavilion Centre at the Royal Cornwall Showground, Wadebridge from 6-9.30pm on 21 October, the event is organised by Stephens Scown LLP, Francis Clark LLP and Savills Incorporating Smiths Gore.

The event will look at the most common succession planning scenarios based on real life farm businesses. Representatives of the three professional firms will use their combined knowledge and experience to address the key issues, provide food for thought for delegates and give them routes to develop their own plans for the future of their farm and family.

Brian Harvey, head of agriculture at Francis Clark LLP said: “When it comes to farming recent surveys continue to suggest that planning for succession remains the elephant in the room.  Our experience shows that whilst achieving a smooth transfer between farming generations can be a challenge, with a careful long term approach, a successful plan can be made for both the family and business and we hope our seminar will shed some light on this.”

“Understanding the requirements of all the parties through open discussion is critical” says Adrian Matthews of Savills. Once these are established it becomes much easier to achieve a successful transition for everyone involved he adds.

Phil Reed, head of rural services at Stephens Scown LLP “Planning for the future is important for all businesses, however farms are more than just a livelihood.  By taking stock early allows plans to be put in place to grow the business for the future, providing for all generations’ requirements.”
