We are delighted to share that our Real Estate team have been able to support our client, LiveWest, with a housing development scheme, which helps military veterans build their own homes in Plymouth.
Hilary Pitts, a partner and head of our Exeter office, with assistance from planning law specialist Duncan Tilney on the planning agreement, has supported leading housing association LiveWest Homes Limited, with the acquisition of land from Plymouth City Council. This complex deal involved negotiation with the council to enable the development to go ahead.
A collaboration between LiveWest and veterans’ charity Alabaré Christian Care & Support, the Stirling Project includes 25 self-contained affordable homes to rent at a subsidised social rent.
Up to twelve of these homes will be self-built by former service personnel in need of housing, many of whom will have previously been homeless. The veterans will earn valuable experience in construction and develop valuable job-based skills.
Hilary Pitts said: “We are really proud to have supported LiveWest with this project, which sits well with our ethos of giving back and doing the right thing. Not only will it help regenerate the area and provide affordable housing, but also give veterans the opportunity to develop new skills, gain experience in the construction industry, and potentially work their way towards a qualification.”
Development begins in May 2021 and is expected to take around 18 months to complete.
